How to Crawl

The 2016 Sacramento Archives Crawl will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 8.  Here's what you need to know to have a great crawl:
 
Where to Begin
You can begin at any one of our four host locations, where you will pick up your passport:

California State Archives (1020 O Street)
California State Library (900 N Street)
Center for Sacramento History (551 Sequoia Pacific Blvd)
Sacramento Public Library (Tsakopoulos Library Galleria, Central Library, 828 I Street)
 
How to Get Around
Whether you decide to make your way between sites by foot, car or shuttle (or some combination thereof), we have you covered.  Our free parking options and shuttle schedule are the same as the previous two years and can be found here: Transportation and Parking Options.

How to Take Part in the Scavenger Hunt
This year we will be offering a scavenger hunt for students in grades K-12 and adults.  Your passport will include the hunt questions and instructions. Learn more here: Scavenger hunt for all ages.

How to Enter the Free Prize Drawings
Enter to win at Central Library. Prizes this year include several subscriptions through Ancestry.com, a Minelab gold panning kit, a package from Lagunitas Brewing Company (for ages 21 and up), and a big gift box of archival goodies.

2016 Crawl Passport

The 2016 Sacramento Archives Crawl passport is now available to preview online (PDF linked in image below).  It contains a map, location information, a shuttle schedule and more.  You'll pick up a passport at the first host location you visit, and you can visit them in any order!

Scavenger hunt for all ages

Back by popular demand, this year's Great Archives Crawl Scavenger Hunt will be open to all ages. Once again, participants will answer questions about documents and artifacts on display at all four host locations. Students (K-12) who successfully complete the scavenger hunt will be entered to win a Chromebook (Acer Chromebook R11) sponsored by Yellow Cab of Sacramento.  One Chromebook will go to K-5 students and the other to students in grades 6-12. Hunt details and questions will be included in the passports.
An Honorary Archivist sticker will go to everyone who completes the scavenger hunt.

Yellow Cab of Sacramento has sponsored Chromebook prizes for K-5 and 6-12 grade students.

Coasters feature "Thirst for History" theme

Crawlers who visit at least three of the four host locations will take home a set of four collectible coasters, and this year's set features images on the theme of "A Thirst for History."

Tour behind the scenes

Three of the four host locations will be offering behind-the-scenes tours during the Crawl on October 8.  Here are some details to help with your schedule:

Center for Sacramento History
Tours depart every 20 minutes starting at 10:20 a.m.; the last tour departs at 3:20 p.m.
20 people max per tour; first come, first served

California State Archives
Tours depart every 30 minutes
20 people per tour

Sacramento Public Library, Sacramento Room
Tours depart at 10:30 a.m., 11:30, 12:30, 1:30 and 2:30 p.m.
20 people max per tour; first come, first served

Archives Crawl film festival at the State Archives

The California State Archives will be hosting the first annual Archives Crawl Film Festival with two free screenings of the film The Sacramento Picture.  Matias Bombal will introduce the film for a 10:30 a.m. showing (registration is now CLOSED for the 10:30 a.m. showing) and a second showing at 1:45 p.m. (registration will be at the State Archives during the crawl).
